Burst of rich flavors and spicy. Originated in Kolhapur and quickly became a major ingredient of Western Maharashtrian cuisine. Being used in homely recipes since ages. 'Kanda' means 'Onion' and 'Lasun' means 'Garlic'. This spice blend renders a spicy but exemplary taste to your recipe.
Although the major influence is from onion and garlic, we also use 4 types of chilies namely, sankeshwari, bedagi, kashmiri and lavangi chili plus coriander seeds, highest quality turmeric sticks (Gathichi Halad), cloves, black pepper, cinnamon,bay leaf, caraway seeds, mace spice, szechuan pepper, brown cardamom, nutmeg, fennel, fenugreek seeds, green cardamom, anise star, black stone flower, cumin seeds, white sesame seeds, asafoetida, poppy seeds, sunflower oil, salt, onion, garlic, dry coconut to prepare this spice blend. We don’t use any types of preservatives, artificial colors or flavoring agents.
Experienced homemakers use this spice blend to prepare dry recipes or recipes with curry e.g. stuffed brinjal, brinjal bharata, chicken curry, mutton masala, fish curry, egg curry, etc. It can also be used as a dry taste maker with traditional maharashtrian snacks like vada pav, usal pav, misal pav, bhajiya, thalipeeth, etc.
Use it cautiously in small quantities to start with and experiment till it adjusts to your spice levels.
